Pila (click here for trail map) For dedicated DH riders, a day trip to Pila is definitely worth the effort. Around 1h30mins drive away, well across the Italian border, Pila hosts a purpose built bike stadium, with a dedicated chairlift. The area includes a World Cup DH track and several other "freeride" trails, all tight singletrack with a distinct DH flavour. The jewel in the crown though is the mammoth descent from Pila (1850m) all the way down to the town of Aosta (400m). For our trip in August 2008, the gondola liking the town and resort was out of action, meaning we only got one chance to hit the trail, but it should be replaced with a brand new lift in time for summer 2009. This huge descent combines steep, dusty singletrack with drops and jumps to form an awesome trail well worthy of its inclusion in MBR's "10 trails to ride before you die" feature.
