La Rosiere (trail map up when I get a chance to scan it!) At first glance, La Rosiere doesn't appear to have put much effort into mountain biking. A network of routes has been signposted using existing trails, but there are no man-made trails or DH courses. Look more closely and you realise that they haven't tried hard because they didn't have to! Some of our favourite singletrack descents are to be found around La Rosiere, including the Trail of 1,000,000 switchbacks and Veni, Vidi, Vici. We often ride these as part of a valley tour starting from the chalet door in Sainte Foy, letting the van take the strain on the ups and saddling up for the singletrack on the downs. Sometimes, we'll use the Roches Noires chairlift to reach the Col de la Traversette at around 2,500m, allowing a continuous descent all the way to Bourg Saint Maurice (at 800m!), 95% of it on great singletrack. La Rosiere sits just below the Col de Petit Saint Bernard, marking the Italian border, from where it's possible to cross over to La Thuile. |
